Adelaide Railway Station

Adelaide Railway Station

Iconic Heritage Redevelopment

Originally built in 1928, The Adelaide Railway Station, found in the heart of the Riverbank Precinct has recently had major restoration works & upgrades to maintain its spectacular heritage for many years to come. HI Lighting supplied most of the lighting upgrades seen throughout the station, including the striking façade lighting.

The lighting design initial concept was provided by FPOV and the trialling process was thorough and co operative. The client had a demanding brief due to the heritage status of the building, so both FPOV and involved suppliers worked together to overcome any issues as they arose.

The exterior walls were illuminated using Philips UNI products (UNI Strip G4, UNI Point & Uni EDGE) to achieve the interactive yet sophisticated result. The UNI fixtures were chosen due to the availability of low voltage spot & linear, compact appearance and Philips product reliability & quality. One of the key features of the Philips UNI products that worked well on this project facade included a simplified wiring system, allowing the same cabling to be use on both linear and spot fixtures throughout. The minimal form and high output of the low voltage products ensured very low visual disruption to the architecture surrounding.

FPOV, Signify, HI Lighting SA & SKS provided a sympathetic visual rendering of the ARS, allowing a soft, sophisticated night viewing for majority of the time, with an ability to engage with the city using colour & light programs for special events.

Inside the concourse, Australian made Digilin Javelin 18 extrusion was used in various sections – this was specified as the client needed something indestructible & reliable due to the very difficult access area. 2 different types of spotlights by Ligman (Odessa & Lador) were also used inside the concourse to not only help meet Australian Lighting Requirements within the space, but also to create an amazing & powerful effect onto the intricate ceiling details. These spotlights allow for durability, optic control & wattage options.

An absolutely spectacular result for an iconic Adelaide building that is now equipped to be used by many commuters for years to come. The lighting highlights the heritage and classic features of the façade heritage, a project HI Lighting SA are so proud to have been involved in & will be a milestone project for us for many years to come.
