Barossa Park

A New Era for Regional Sport and Community Life

The transformation of Lyndoch Oval into Barossa Park marks a significant milestone in regional development, delivering a $45.7 million, state-of-the-art sporting and community precinct. Completed ahead of schedule in March 2025, this visionary redevelopment was made possible through a collaborative effort between the South Australian Government and the Barossa Council. Designed to enhance local infrastructure, foster community engagement, and attract tourism, Barossa Park is now a key destination in the Barossa region.

Far more than a traditional sports ground, Barossa Park has been purposefully designed to support a diverse range of activities. At its centre is a modern, multipurpose facility featuring a 350-seat event space, contemporary clubrooms, a commercial grade kitchen, and fully equipped change rooms catering to various sporting codes. The park also includes a new gym, netball courts, an athletics track, and a distinctive bar space styled as a mini replica of Adelaide Oval. Enhanced road access and expanded parking ensure the venue can comfortably host major events and large crowds.

Lighting the Future of Sport and Community Use

A critical component of the redevelopment was the integration of advanced sports and area lighting. HI Lighting played a key role by providing conceptual lighting designs that led to the supply of high performance lighting solutions across multiple areas, including the AFL-standard oval, netball and tennis courts, clubrooms, changerooms, and carparks.

The project demanded a highly coordinated approach, with lighting products locally stored and managed in South Australia to meet the strict delivery timelines.

The primary lighting objective was to enable flexible illumination levels to suit a variety of uses, from professional grade football and premier cricket to community sport and training sessions. Customisable lighting scenes help balance performance and energy efficiency, delivering optimal visibility while reducing running costs. Importantly, obtrusive light management was a core consideration, ensuring minimal impact on nearby residents and roads.

Opening a New Chapter for the Barossa

Barossa Park officially opened during the 2025 AFL Gather Round, welcoming  more than 20,000 fans across its first weekend. Since then, it has established itself as a premier destination for year-round sport, recreation, and community events. With worldclass facilities and scalable infrastructure, the precinct positions the Barossa Council to meet both current community needs and future demands.

Barossa Park represents more than just a redevelopment, it’s a place of opportunity, connection, and celebration, offering endless possibilities for health, wellbeing, and regional pride.
